Drivers for Canon PIXMA iP1000

Hello,

I can't print with my Canon PIXMA iP1000 printer because there's no
built-on drivers for that printer on Ubuntu.
I tried other printer drivers came with Ubuntu such as BJC2100 and
iP4000 to see whether my printer works with them. But no luck.
I took a search for *.PPD files on my printer driver CD ROM. They do
Windows and Mac only; no luck again. :-(

Does somebody know where to find the appropriate drivers for Canon PIXMA
iP1000?
Please provide the URL for download.

Thank you.

You may look here:

As it says on the page, this was submitted, but has not been verified.
So use with caution.

Very appropriate drivers for linux are provided here :
http://www.turboprint.de/english.html (the problem is that it's neither
free nor open source).

Hi,

maybe we somehow missed the business model of turboprint. ;-))

They provide turboprint to download and test free of charge.

For testing purposes, you can print anything with the only
limitation that they print out their logo on any page, except
when printing in draft mode.

This allows you to see how
wonderful turboprint works in conjunction with your printer
without paying anything before knowing.

Only after you know, you go to the turboprint website, pay for
and download a valid license key and voila:

You can print to
your canon in a quality that matches windows, without any
additional logo, simply because you paid for the license. ;-)

It is cheap and it is money well spent. I fully agree with
Brendon:
There is nothing comparable around, especially in
regard to canon inkjet printers used with Linux.
For example I use it to print from Dapper to a Canon i965 that is
connected to a Windows XP box. Works like a charm, it takes
rather long until the printout starts, but the quality of the
prints is outstandingly good...

regards
Eberhard

Fully agree. I spent weeks messing around with driver combinations for
my Canon Pixma MP750; finally broke down and bought the Turboprint
license & haven't looked back since. I'm even able to have a networked
Windows Win2KP computer print via my Ubuntu system (using Samba & CUPS)
where the MP750 is connected.

That said, the OP might want to take a look at Wei-Yee Chan's post and
give that a try first.

Not having a Canon printer nor the inclination to read their EULA,
how do they handle updated drivers? Does their license fee cover
upgrades? Cross-grades (ie, new Canon printer, different driver)?

Just curious.

Cheers,

This is a quote from the website http://www.turboprint.info:

TurboPrint
By ordering a TurboPrint license you will receive a "keyfile". With the
keyfile you can unlock additional features that are not available in the
FreeEdition:
* Higher print quality
* Support for additional print media (TrueMatch color correction &
correct paper loading):
* Inkjet paper
* Glossy paper
* Transparencies
* ...

The keyfile is also valid for all future updates to TurboPrint V1.xx. Owners
of a keyfile can also get upgrades to extended versions (V2.x and higher)
at a reduced price.

Note: please install the "Free Edition" first, available at our download
page to verify compatiblity with your Linux installation. After your
purchase you will receive a keyfile to convert TurboPrint FreeEdition into
the full version.

The Turboprint software contains drivers for *all* the printers they
support, so once you've bought the licence, you can use any supported
printer. You could connect up 20 different types of printer to your PC and
use them all.

Also, you can you the licence key on different computers.

Note: I haven't read the EULA either, so I'm describing what you *can* do,
not necessarily what they want you to do ;-)
