Hi folks,

I know this is technically not an Ubuntu issue, but as this list has
always been helpful, I thought I'd ask here.

Through all my searching I've seen that the PPD file included with the
Dell 5110cn printer is sufficient for use with Ubuntu, but I got my
printer aftermarket and have no such CD. Further, the only iso I'm able
to find on Dell's support site is for their Open Print Management
client/server app which does not have the aforementioned PPD.

So, if anyone has a link to it or an .rpm which I can convert to a .deb
using alien, I'd be very thankful..

Kind regards,
-Ray

Dell.com says that printer does Postscript 3 and PCL5e/6

If you set it up as a generic post script printer, then customize the
memory, trays avail etc using the CUPS web interface it'll work fine
without you downloading anything.

This looks like the cd that came in the box
<http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R168755&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=229639>

If you don't want to use their (likely sucky) printer software, just
the ppd file, then download the windows PS info
<http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R127795&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=169930>

unzip the zip file, then extract the ppd file from the pp_ cabinet
file, and you end up with the file I just emailed you directly....
you owe me a coffee...

Ray,
Driverguide.com has a limited free download quota per month but that
should not be a problem for you and they are a very good source.

Thanks Willis. With the help of others, the printer is now working.
While I'm a member of driverguide.com, I haven't used them in a while
and had frankly forgotten about them as a potential source.

For the benefit of the archives, extracting the PPD file for that
printer from the Windows driver set was sufficient to get full
functionality out of it on Ubuntu with CUPS.

Best,
-Ray
