Hi,

does anyone know
why ubuntu 8.04 server dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg doesn't ask for
video and/or monitor information?
it only asks for keyboard information.
and
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg doesn't ask form any information.

thanks.

The old database of Monitors and configurations that dpkg-reconfigure
used to rely on is being depricated. Ubuntu is relying entirely on Xorg
shiny new autodetection to handle this task.

the devs say this fixes several old outstanding bugs that they were
never able to fix with the old system. But as with any major change
like this, it brings out all the people whose system is now bugged.

If your video card/monitor combo doesn't do the 'right thing' out of the
box, it needs to be reported as a bug, and will get fixed in Xorg
itself, not as a xorg configuration hack.
