I can't speak for anyone else but I do not know what this thing is.
Can you explain or give an example?

I also don't know what "Arora" is.

Do you mean this:
https://aurora-browser.en.softonic.com/ (apparently Windows-only, a
version of IE)

... or this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arora_(web_browser) (never heard of it before)

I suspect what is meant is the the OP is receiving those phishing
E-Mails that say "your E-Mail address has been used for sending lots
of spam" or similar. These try to suggest that your computer has an
'infection' of some sort.

'infection' of some sort.
If so, the OP would get this, when using an email web interface, some
information the OP should have provided. However, it still doesn't
explain why the OP does "have malware and can't get online with
Firefox", "switched to Arora to get on line but can't get firefox at
all"? It's an assumption, followed by a bad phrased
confusing description.

Not sure how secure Arora is. Light weight is one thing but security is
another. Im guessing you are seeing a pop up on a page that says this.

What version of Ubuntu and FF are you using?

if so, perhaps this thingy does lock Firefox? Doug, neither Liam, nor
Wade nor I and perhaps nobody else does know what you get and why it is
a problem. However, open a terminal and run

killall -9 firefox

after Firefox disappeared run

firefox --ProfileManager

use the "Create Profile..." button to create a new profile, then double
click the new profile.

Does this work to get rid of it?

Regards,
Ralf
