Discussion:
jme module missing in netboot installation

Hi all

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 with the netboot install on a
Shuttle XS35GTV2 using unetbootin and an usb stick.

Unfortunately the Ubuntu installation image can't set up the wired
network.
The module jme is missing.

I found a solution [1] but I don't know how to get it working since I
can't run make in the installation shell.

Another solution is from [2]. In the file jme.4freebsd:

Alternatively, to load the driver as a
module at boot time, place the following line in
.Xr loader.conf 5 :
.Bd -literal -offset indent
if_jme_load="YES"

Unfortunately there's no loader.conf file on the usb stick.

Any thoughts on how I can install a minimal Ubuntu?

Cheers
Ramon

Still trying to install ubuntu.

When using server version I can install and load the jme module.
But I can't still not connect to the internet.

No ideas?

Can you temporarily attach some other kind of networking device, such
as a USB Ethernet or wireless LAN adaptor?

Failing that, transplant the hard drive into a working machine, update
your new install fully, then transplant it back Ubuntu is highly
tolerant of this.

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately I don't have such an USB adapter.

But I will try to install Ubuntu to the HDD using a different machine as
you suggested.
I'll write tomorrow if it worked...

I was able to install the Ubuntu server version but I still can't make
the NIC work.

There were no problems loading the modules
# modprobe jme
# depmod -a

But still the NIC isn't doing anything.

Debian installs without problem. That's really weird...

I posted here as well:

Could you report this as a bug against the 'linux' package in Ubuntu?
That's where this needs to be fixed.

Yes, should I change the question here to a bug:

Yes. It should be reassigned to linux too - gnome-nettool has nothing
to do with this.

I'm now using openELEC.

But I have converted my question into a bug report:
